Sands Beach welcomed the president of Fundación Disgrup Guillermo Egido to Lanzarote recently when he visited to sign an agreement with the president of the Lanzarote Cabildo Pedro San Ginés to promote Lanzarote as a tourist destination for people with disabilities.
The agreement between the Fundación Disgrup and the Cabildo will promote Lanzarote not only as a tourist destination for people with disabilities but also as a destination for sports tourism, focusing on amateur sportsmen and Paralympics and Special Olympics competitors. Those present at the signing of the agreement included the minister for tourism as well as representatives of Adislán and Tinguafaya.
Whilst the Fundación Disgrup does not believe there is a perfect destination for people with disabilities they believe Lanzarote comes close due to the facilities, landscapes, culture, and the work of César Manrique. However, Pedro San Ginés believes more work needs to be done to improve accessibility but the island is certainly on track.
The agreement between the Fundación Disgrup and the Cabildo will also help raise money for the Adislán and Tinguafaya associations. Disgrup have donated 30,000 pens to the Cabildo to be sold for 1 euro each, all proceeds going to Adislán and Tinguafaya. The pens are available from the Centros de Arte, Cultura y Turismo del Cabildo and participating hotels.
Guillermo Edigo’s story is a true inspiration to others. He founded Fundación Disgrup after suffering from a brain tumor which changed his life. He has since worked tirelessly to help others with disabilities. The agreement between Fundación Disgrup and the Lanzarote Cabildo will help to promote Lanzarote as a sports destination for people with disabilities and make sport more accessible as well as raise money Adislán and Tinguafaya, causes that Sands Active is passionate about.
During his stay at Sands Beach Guillermo Egido was able to try out one of the TRi WWW jollettes with Sands director Juan Carlos Albuixech and Sands Active Alberto Lorrio Romera. Sands Active fully supports this new collaboration and looks forward to seeing the agreement in action.
