Lanzarote is the perfect sports destination and offers challenging races which also present the perfect opportunity for competitors to raise money for charitable causes.
One such person is Ian Barr who will be in Lanzarote for the Ironman 70.3 on the 5th October and the full marathon at the Lanzarote International Marathon on the 8th December.
Ian Barr is the club president of Lasswade Rugby Club in Scotland as well as Scottish Rugby Council Championship representative. He will be raising money for the Bill McLaren Foundation. Ian said:
“I’ve chosen to raise funds for The Bill McLaren Foundation because they do so much good work for rugby causes, helping to promote its values, to provide sporting opportunities for young people and as the force behind the Positive Coaching Scotland Accreditation.”
The Foundation is very happy that Ian will be using his efforts to raise money for them. Chief Executive Alan Lawson said:
“We’re delighted that Ian has chosen the Foundation as recipient of the fruits of his efforts in these terrific challenges. I know he has gone to extraordinary lengths to ensure he’s in the peak of fitness to compete and wish him all the very best in both events.”
Many people who met Bill McLaren were greatly influenced by him as a P.E teacher and commentator as he had a strong desire to promote the game of rugby. After his death in 2010 the Bill McLaren Foundation was set up to continue his work in ensuring ‘his’ values of good sportsmanship continued in rugby. If you would like to support Ian Barr in his sporting endeavors over the next couple of months and want to help him raise money for the Bill McLaren Foundation then visit his JustGiving page.
Sands Beach Active look forward to welcoming Ian Barr for the Lanzarote International Marathon as well as his wife Tracy who will be running the half marathon distance. We wish you both luck and hope you can raise as much money as possible for this good cause. Suerte!
